Stewardship 2011 - Faith Voyage pt. 2
Faith Voyage Sets Sail – Stewardship 2011
We set sail on our 2011 Stewardship campaign on Sunday, October 16th under the theme of a “Faith Voyage”. Our inspiration is the incredible faith exhibited by the witnesses to the birth of Jesus: Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men and the shepherds. Even in the face of their fears and the skeptical world, each had faith in God’s message and did whatever it took to make sure the birth happened. In our own time, we see similar miracles of faith when seafaring crews head out seeking an ocean catch in both fair and foul weather relying only on their captain and navigator, their ship and each other’s hard work. In the Wisdom of Solomon, the Bible tells us that Christians are like sailors – only it is God that steers our course, offers us a safe way through the waves and saves us from every danger. If we have faith and allow God to be our captain and Jesus our navigator, even those of us who lack skill may put to sea and come safely to land. Like the witnesses to Jesus’ birth and the sailors, if we believe and keep the miracle of faith alive and our own ship, St. Paul Lutheran Church, well provisioned, we are saved. Today we will hear from a crew member on our Faith Voyage. While you listen please pray on the message of faith you hear and the messages you hold in your own heart. Ask yourself how it is that we can work together like a seafaring crew during the Stewardship campaign under the guidance of Jesus, our navigator. Our budget for 2012 is expected to be similar to last year’s budget of approximately $160,000 and every pledge on Commitment Sunday, November 13th adds to our ability to continue our voyage of faith together.
